Piraeus Academy was founded to restore what every capable student deserves: serious books, exacting instruction, and the time and attention required to do difficult work well.
Our Story
ABOUT PIRAEUS ACADEMY
Piraeus Academy began with a simple conviction: that young people are capable of more than they are usually asked to do, and that real education is a personal relationship between tutor and pupil. In ordinary classrooms, the most able are often underchallenged, and those who struggle are easily overlooked. One-to-one instruction allows the course of study, the pace, and the expectations to be shaped around the student rather than the other way around.
Our work is rooted in the great traditions of the humanities—love of truth, disciplined thought, clear expression, and respect for the best that has been written and said. We are not a test-prep factory and not a supplement to school. We are a place where students learn to read closely, think clearly, and write with precision and confidence.
Letter From our Founder
After studying Honors English at Harvard for four years, it was shocking to me how many young people are ill-prepared for the true demands of a liberal arts education. Uninspired by the countless AI projects which are unfairly touted to parents as fix-alls, and fueled by my years of first-hand experience as an educator, I was moved to start my own company to address the increasing lack of traditional humanities education.
I have traveled and lived across North America, Europe, and most recently Asia: speaking with parents and students all the while. I am acutely aware of the global factors which incentivize the rampantly growing educational marketplace, but have consistently found a significant gap between the prioritization of on-paper accolades and the development of critical thinking, individual passion, and traditional research abilities which are far too often overlooked and, in fact, prove the most important in achieving and maximizing a first-class education. My mission is to embolden students to embrace not only literature, but the tenets of independent thought which will serve them well not only in the classroom, but for the rest of their lives.
I cannot wait to read and write with you all. Sincerely,
Kate Ravenscroft, Piraeus Founder
